What is the TranslatHR?

The TranslatHR is a FREE tool that helps you easily migrate from previous versions of HR-XML standards into the new 3.0. The HR-XML Consortium has redesigned its architecture to align with other standards organizations including OAGi (OAGIS) and UN/CEFACT (core components). At its center, the TranslatHR is simply an XSLT stylesheet that is applied to your instance docuements.

Why would I need it?

The TranslatHR can help you support the new 3.0 spec without having to re-write your entire applications. Or it could be used to support multiple versions of the standard with the same base application code.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I get?

The core of the TranslatHR which is XSLT. These stylesheets come with the download. It is important to know that this project is very new. It is not yet complete nor fully tested.

The TranslatHR began with the Candidate noun or object. The systematic translation attempts to map all common reusables (or Cross Process Objects in older HR-XML lingo) from the old specs to the new. This mapping is another key benefit of the tool. The mapping answers the question "to which field does this node map?"

What are the requirements for using this utility?

Using the TranslatHR stylesheets only require an XSLT 2.0 processor. There are 2 free XSLT 2.0 processors:

  1. Saxon which has an open source version as well as commercial ones. According to their website, it works on any platform that has Java JDK 1.5 (also known as J2SE 5.0) or .NET version 2.0.
  2. AltovaXML is a free windows executable (.exe) component. This functionality is also baked into their flagship product XmlSpy.

Have you demonstrated this tool to HR-XML?

Yes. In fact, it was shown in a webinar for the Consortium, along with the value proposition for the tool as well as its current state of development.

Here is the slide deck for the webinar - Migrating to HR-XML-3.0 and back.

How can I get it?

Send me an email request and I'll get you started. It is offered completely for free.

Of course, if you want to buy me a coffee to help support its development, I am most appreciative.
